I should probably stop discussing future events so much since it kills any shock value for a lot of the readers. ^_^* Most of the people I regularly talk to already knew what was coming at the end of this chapter, so it was hard to tell how effective it was. So really... I need to keep a lid on things more.
Buuut, now that the holidays are over, hopefully there won't be any more long breaks for a while. I certainly don't intend to leave this one hanging forever, at least.
(though I will potentially have a job offer that will force me to move to Illinois, so if that actually pans out, I'll once again have to take my leave for a while. Though I've been job-hunting for five and a half years now, and someone telling me they'll call me back has never meant anything before, but.... I can at least hope ^_^*)

So, if you've read chapter 53, you know that "Duhn-duhn-DUHN" shows up at the end. Despite important characters usually getting the chapter image when they show up, I realized that this character's very appearance would be a spoiler to anyone who happened to just scroll down the page to check out the illustration before reading it. Buuuut, since he's the character design FROM HELL, I wanted to show him off, anyway, to make all those hours staring at the screen and etching detail with a tiny brush to mean something. I just got done reading Chapter 54, and I must second Taisira's reaction to an earlier chapter. You made me cry. Somehow, this chapter struck me harder than the previous, perhaps due to the fact that it goes into your emotions more in-depth than the previous chapter. By the end, I rather wished that I could join Hisui in giving you a hug.

By the end, I rather wished that I could join Hisui in giving you a hug. Chapter 54 and the subsequent explanation of it that will gradually occur in coming chapters was really hard to plan out because it deals with the story's narrator becoming completely unreliable and therefore all the blanks have to be progressively filled in by other characters. Therefore, chapter 54 ended up as "This is what happens when the 'I' in a first-person story loses his mind." |

I just read the latest chapter. Akagane was awesome, and I'm glad it made the chapter illustration. I felt bad about the clashing of wills with the priests, though.

I kind of called this chapter "The Five Stages of Grief: Part 2".
This part of the story is difficult to write for a whole host of reasons. First, literary expectations typically assume the hero of the story is doing the right thing, and while the readers here can probably at least sympathize with him and his mindset, his juvenile and irrational actions are not intended to be interpreted as the "correct" course of action, thus we have the convergence of pretty much all the other still-living characters to help him through this.
Secondly, while I don't want this "grieving" section of the story to drag, I also don't want it to be over with too quickly. This is a massive turning point in both the objective and overall mindset of the hero, and it needs to be eased into in a realistic manner.

Chapter 56 is done and up, and in the meantime, here's a little something extra it inspired for some reason despite the fact that it didn't even come close to happening. My mind is in the gutter. I can't go OOC and rush it in the story, but dammit, I want some action somewhere.  |

I........ have............ returned. We got a brand new computer, with a lovely, big 20" screen, and the first night I had it up and on line IT GOT INFECTED!!!!! One of those Trojan thingys, I think. Had to take it back in and wait three weeks cause there were alot of people in with the same thing ahead of us. Ugh. I have been out of the loop so long, that I found myself flabbergasted, floored, flummoxed! Did I say flabbergasted? I literally did not see that coming! But what IS he? No wonder you went crazy! And poor Ryakki!  So at least two years have gone by since you left Akagane and Co. I thought they might turn up again. I think that you should go find Boksanu(?) and consult with him. Trees see and hear a lot of things, I'll bet. Who knows what he knows? (The Shadow Knows!)  |

Literally! ;D I suppose that you are going to have to find out what happened during those four missing years, now. It could help in finding more clues about What Is Going On Here?  And those attacking youkai wouldn't happen to be "daddy" come a calling?  |

Probably at all kinds of different rates, but I have chibi-Papa aging at the same rate as a human until puberty, at which point he slows down. At this point he's 13.
