Actually, if you were Kisa then I remember you! Wow! Small world, huh? Yeah, I've recently made a bunch of Avatar cosplays, and I'm working on an Adiane cosplay (from Gurren Lagann) that involves a full corset as well as a ton of applique and possibly trapunto work. All of them are a lot more difficult to make than kimono (and, unlike the Izayoi costume which is ancient, they're actually made of good fabric), so I sort of want to show them off (especially since they're brand new). Plus it'll be nice to have (for once) cosplay that's not too hot or close for the weather on top of being easy to move in. Oh I hear you about easy to move costumes. I vaguely remember you mentioning you actually had to kind of scurry around in Izzy's costume because of all the layers and what not. One of the costumes I did was the Mirror Card from Card Captor Sakura and the sleeves on that thing are insane and for that reason I probably won't be wearing it this summer...though I don't know what the Double Tree looks like so...I'm still thinking of all the out door space of the Expo. Center. I would love to be able to make intricate costumes and harder pieces but ^^; The most I know about sewing is what I can figure out on my own through trial and error so its pretty much "the pieces *should* look like this, and go together like *this*". Ahh...I was looking through my Convention pictures and I found one of you hugging the guy who went as the "Demon" Inuyasha...I always liked that pic. Yeah, the skirt on Izayoi's outfit went way longer than my feet, so I couldn't really pick my feet up to walk or I'd step on it and trip. Instead I had to like...shuffle. Well, actually I'm a senior apparel design student, so I make clothing professionally, and since I just got done with a class where we focused mostly on corsetry, I figured I should give it a shot on my own. The costume's actually going in my porfolio when I'm done. Haha, oh man, I remember that picture...I have that somewhere too. |

I really look forward to see your costumes this year then, seeing as how I've heard that making corsets is rather tricky. I was interested for the longest time in being an art student...and then I never got around to making my own portfolio and by the time I should have started, I wasn't willing to be a "starving artist" so. Still though, that's very impressive!  |

XD I actually made it because of you. ^_^* I never really did much with Yachouon, but since you mentioned that you liked him I wanted him to get his own little gag strip, since I'm sure he was jealous that Akagane was getting picked on so much and wanted in on the action.  |

Since not all of them have been covered in the character profiles and whatnot, in case people were curious here's a rundown off all the original names/terms used in the memoirs so far and what they mean. However, my Japanese compound word no jutsu is weak, therefore I don't know if the words I invented myself are legitimate kanji combinations. Ah well. NamesYachouon - –é’ª‰¹@- "night-wave-sound" - This is actually a legitimate "human" name according to the dictionary, but I thought it described him accurately enough. The "chouon" part of the word ("wave sound") was listed as an obsolete term, so I hoped that meant the name was also sufficiently "old-sounding". Akagane - Ô‹à - "red-metal" ("copper") - Though the word "akagane" is typically written as a different, single kanji (“º), to fit with the naming scheme I had to break it down into its component parts, which ended up working in my favor, anyway, as most Japanese names are dual-kanji words. And as a stroke of luck, after I'd settled on my naming scheme I discovered that people of the same family in ancient times often shared one kanji in their given names amongst them. I wanted him to have a "strong" sounding name that referenced something you could make stuff out of. Kogane - ‰©‹à - "yellow-metal" ("gold") - The fact that this particular term is usually written as two characters instead of one is the reason Akagane ended up with the two-kanji name instead of a single kanji, to make them match. And, as stated before, it ended up being a stroke of luck culturally that I ended up doing it that way. I wanted to give her a name that matched her brother's scheme while also being "lighter" in tone. Hisui - ãʼn - "kingfisher-green" ("jade") - I wanted to keep with the "name theme" of Sango's village, which between Sango ("coral"), Kohaku ("amber"), and Kirara ("mica") seemed to be "semi-precious stones", or even more broadly "stuff you can make jewelry out of". And, completely unintentionally, the second character of her name is the same as the first character of "Midoriko". Eika - ‰r‰Ì - "poem-song" ("ballad") - I just wanted to give her a musical-sounding name. There wasn't really much more thought than that put into her name choice. ^_^* Weapons/AbilitiesKakyou/Genkyou - ‰Á‹¿/Œ¸‹¿ - "increase-resonance"/"decrease-resonance" - The first pair of my totally "pulled out of my butt" words that I just made up. I just wanted them to have some sort of positive/negative up/down add/subtract sort of duality in their naming scheme. Mokuzenmei - –Ù‘R– - "silent-way-cry" ("mute knell") - It only got one use and I'm not really sure why I took the time to name it, but here's another totally made-up word that just went for a descriptive explanation of what it does. Tamaokuri no Nari - —ì‘—‚è‚̖‚è - "soul-send-ring" - "Tamaokuri" is sort of a ritual to send off souls (think Yuna in FFX), while "nari" is the toll of a bell. This name was mostly just modified from Movie 4's "Tamaokuri no Uta", since I was feeling uncreative and wanted something I was pretty sure made Japanese grammatical sense. Sansazume - ŽO³’Ü - "three-forked-talon" - For this one I just took the word for "trident" ("sansageki") and replaced the "halberd" kanji with "talon". This word would probably actually be more correctly romanized as "Sansadzume", but I thought that looked funny. If Renji can have a sword that by all appearances should have a name that is pronounced "Jabimaru" yet forces the pronounciation "Zabimaru" on it, then I can make this "Sansazume" instead of "Sansadzume". Is that all the names and terms? If there's one that I've used that I've forgotten to explain, let me know. |

Only one thing really comes to mind after that last chapter.... NEVER-ENDING-STORRRRRRYYYYYYY!!! Ladada Ladada LadadaaaaNEVERENDINGSTORRRYYYYYYYY!!! Oh, come now, Falcor was big and white and fluffy and had floppy ears and was a mode of transportation, and otherwise bears NO resemblance to me. Besides, this story isn't neverending. Just... long. It's been 35 chapters and only a year has gone by. x__X Then again, the original Inuyasha manga took 558 chapters to cover a year, so in that regard, I'm doing pretty well. ... Not that I intend this to go 558 chapters. |

I was also wondering when the bell thing was going to come up but uh...I don't think Akagane would've been terribly okay with that solution anyway. Oh well (although I suspect the bells are probably going to end up being important for this anyway).

Way to screw everything up by being a jerk. ^_^* Well, it kind of goes along with another theme of this story, in that people's actions can have effects far beyond the immediately obvious. It's just in Akagane's case, the whole "your actions affect those around you" got taken to the extreme by having all of his negativity over the past six months accumulate in the jewel, and it ended up costing him the one most important to him. However, a lot of it also just boils down to a lot of bad luck on his part that he can't be directly blamed for. But he's still responsible for how he's behaved in reaction to it. Moral of the story: Don't be an asshole. "That solution" being... what? I'm just curious as to where people think I'm going with this so I know whether I'm either making it too obvious or not dropping enough hints. |

I'm not going to come out and say you're right or wrong about this, but I liked hearing your conjectures on it and it, and will just say you'll have to wait and see. And I'm fine with people explicitly conjecturing, since it helps me know if I'm being clear enough and if people can follow my lines of logic. If I see people start conjecturing things that just seem to be completely out of nowhere (re: the "Sesshoumaru Chinese?!" thread), then it helps me know what information I need to re-hash and better explain. |
