Wait...what about Kagome? Why wouldn't she be able to purify Naraku also? And like hell everyone's (not just InuYasha) gonna just sit around and let Kikyou take down Naraku by herself! I suppose Takahashi's going to throw more twists into that too!

Well, if Kagome couldn't purify Kikyou after Naraku stuck her with a little shouki, how is she supposed to purify the source of it? Naw, she ain't that tough.

Ah...come on! I don't think people give Kagome enough credit... she just needs someone to kick her in the butt to get her going! I just don't think she's realized her full potential yet! I mean, she is supposed to be Kikyou's reincarnation. So theoretically she should have most (if not all) of Kikyou's abilities... right? I just don't like the fact that Kikyou is all high and mighty about fighting Naraku (and I'm not a Kikyou hater!).

remember that Kikyo has a part of Kagome's soul, thus part of her powers.

Kikyou has only enough of Kagome's soul to keep her alive long enough for her (I'm not even going to try to spell it) soul catchers to feed her sustaining souls. Yet she seems to have all the power. I've never seen Kagome apear and disaprear and fly around! So her strength comes from somehere else I think. Or Kagome is the biggest slacker of all time. But I think it's because Kikyou is no longer human, she's youkai. And I'm wondering if that is the one thing she's not considering that will come back to bite her in the ass.

In the world of Inuyasha, you are basically a youkai if you have powers and are not human. And need I remind you of a certain youkai comb or mask? Flesh and bones have nothing to do with it.

Ahh, but Kikyo was human to begin with. Yura was a posessed comb of the dead (who raided courney love's closet) and the flesh eating mask was carved from a tree with a shard in it. In my opinion Kikyo is more like a wondering souless ghost, yuurei(sp?). Like the Japanese fairytale of the crying rock. I don't know if I would put Kikyo into the youkai catagory- not yet anyways...

Doesn't matter if she was human to begin with. Sara (the woman who loved Sesshoumaru) was human, but when she became possed by demons, she was called youkai by Sesshoumaru.
And how is kikyou any different the a possed comb? they are both spirits inhabiting an inanimate unorganic object?

well, technically everyone would be a Youkai then, possesing their own flesh and bones. Sara was possesed by youkai, thus she was a youkai. Kikyo just had her body reconstructed and got a fraction of her soul back. Doesn't seem like a youkai to me at all

But they keep refering to her body as clay and that it's cold to the touch I think they said once. Her body is not made of living cells.
Basically what it comes down to is that Kikyou is not living in a state of natural human existance.
Here is the definition of youkai:
youkai (kanji info) (n) ghost; apparition; phantom; spectre; demon; monster; goblin; (P)
Kikyou fits the bill.

But you forget that Kikyou is a miko. Dead or not, that makes the source of her spiritual powers holy origins - making her an overall opposing force against any sort of youkai. She spent her entire life - and now death - fighting youkai; classifying her as one of the same beings responsible for her death makes her sacrifice for naught.
Going along with the provided definition of youkai (ghost; apparition; phantom; spectre; demon; monster; goblin), Kikyou can easily be proved as neither. She's not a ghost or apparrition; both are non-physical manifestations while Kikyou, moving freely within a physical body, cannot be either. Same applies with "phantom" or "spectre." As for "demon," "monster" or "goblin" - Kikyou was born human and died as a human, therefore, when her soul was torn away from a very human Kagome, she is still very much human - therefore, neither of these things.
If Kikyou had to be classified as anything, she is a human soul. Not a ghost or phantom - she has a body of her own. Not a demon or goblin - her soul still remains human. So please, stop calling the poor girl a youkai - she has enough to deal with as it is!
In the meantime, I hope Kagome can lend out a helping hand. As powerful as Kikyou's miko powers are, that's one heck of a task she's setting up for herself!
