How come Kikyo stole Midoriko's soul from the cavern if it was supposed to be inside the shikon no tama? Or is it something about the difference between Shinidama and Tamashii? Man this chapter got me...

Well apparently it's another type of "soul", like a left over thing on the dead body. Althought that seems awfuly convenient if you ask me.
And Kikyo seems to have awaken the wrath of Midoriko or something...

What I don't get is that if Kikyo and Midoriko have the same soul, does that mean that Kagome does too? And why couldn't she get through the barrier? It was sort of odd that only Kuhaku could. Although he does have that shard in his back, does it mean that Midoriko is calling the jewel back somehow? (and does this mean that Koga will be coming back also, seeing as he has the last two shards still?) The soul thing gets me too. You're right B-chan about it being convenient. I guess I'm still lost with this chapter too.

I believe that Midoko's soul is similar to Kikyo's soul, because Midorko also was once a pure miko, like Kikyo. Kikyo summoned the remenants of Midorko's soul (kinda of like the reminates of her own soul that Kagome now has). However, by summoning Midorko's remaining soul, it now wants to be reunited with the other part of her soul. This is located within the shikon shards. So, Midorko's soul is trying to unite, and thus setting up a barrier only holders of the shikon no tama can pass through. If am right there is a 90% chance the lovable, renagade, wolf turd shall be making his return next chapter. Yay! Kouga-kun! ;D

Alright that makes more sense now. Thank you Dia! I really hope this means that Koga is coming back because despite what some people may think of him, he just makes me laugh 'cause he's SO clueless when it comes to Kagome! Either way it looks like something big is going to happen (again!).

(*Chafa remembers what he said back when Kikyo "died", fight with Naraku in papa's grave, Mouryoumaru and Kagura's death...*)

The only problem with the theory of the Midoriko's soul seeking to be reunited is the fact that Kagome was rejected as was mentioned earlier.

So? Kagome isn't related in any way to Midoriko, and she isn't carrying any shikon fragments at the moment.
What would be interesting to see is if Inuyasha can cross the barrier, seeing as there have been minor hints relating him to Midoriko.

I was kinda thinking along the lines that if it was Midoriko's barrier, that it would only be those she exquisitely wished to cross the barrier that would be able to do it. She was, after all, the creator of the Shikon no Tama; she may be the most powerful miko of all, even over someone like Kikyou. Maybe Midoriko wants to gather the Shikon shards without any interruptance, as there would be from interlopers such as Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Shippou. Which makes me wonder . . . as someone who carries such a massive amount of the Shikon Tama, would Naraku feel the pulse as well? Or really, be able to detect anything at all? Kohaku's shard seems to be telling him that his summons will help him to defeat Naraku . . . it seems that if all of this is from Midoriko, she's managed to be cued in to all that's been happening in the last fifty years, despite being dead for hundreds. Quite an achievement! Even Kikyou hadn't kept herself current after only half a century! But really, all that just makes me confused and wonder where Takahashi is going with this . . . especially with the explanation of "wut the heck?!" Midoriko's soul has been doing (or been) the last few centuries. Guess the only way to find out is to tune in next week . . . *crosses fingers* And let's hope this "Finale #8.314159" will be *one* of the last, at least.

I just had another thought and a theory that could explain everything that has confused us, although a bit far fetched.
It's about the shinidamachuu that appear near the ending. It seems to me a bit unlikely that Kikyo would suddenly send for them to fetch Inuyasha's gang, since Inuyasha is already with her and she doesn't seem to need Kagome's assistance.
Could it be that those were Midoriko's shinidamachuu? What if Midoriko has been feeding herself souls like Kikyo has? This would explain the sudden resemblance in Kikyo and Midoriko in that they are both dead souls; Kikyo's soul is in Kagome while Midoriko's soul is in the shikon no tama. The only difference is that Kikyo has been given a fake body to walk around.
So the "dead soul" the Kikyo took from Midoriko could have been like the one she has. But just like when Kagome takes away Kikyo's souls, Kikyo doing that to Midoriko could have left her extremely weak so she has summoned the shikon fragments (maybe only Kohaku's or maybe more...) to save herself for she too may want too aid in defeating Naraku. Although that does not look promising for our friend Kohaku who might need to sacrifice himself.
Told ya it was far fetched...

Yes, Chafa-kun, I believe almosta the same, the manga is gonna finish...the manga is gonna continue, depends on how "evlllll" Rumiko decides to be I'm not totally aware of what is gonna happen from now on but I have the clear sensation that all the strings of Shikon no Tama are being pulled toward an end. And when Kikyo gathers something important is gonna happen

So? Kagome isn't related in any way to Midoriko, and she isn't carrying any shikon fragments at the moment. Well, Maybe Kuro could shed some light on this, but Kikyou said, "Midoriko and I carry the same soul." She also carries the same soul as Kigome (at least part of it) So unless Kikyou caries multiple souls (not talking about the ones she used to live on) then be extension, Kagome's soul comes from Midoriko and thus IS indeed related to Midoriko.

well, I'm guessing here, but Kikyo said "Midoriko and I carry SIMILAR souls", that doesn't mean that they're related in any way. Besides, if they were related, Kikyo would know. Probably the whole similar souls thing is about their miko power, and that's it.

Well, like I said, I'm just going by Kuro's translation. So I'll leave any further explaination to her.
