I was originally going to put this in the Rumor Mill, since it's an unconfirmed episode title, but... Inuyasha Info From Japan has the title of episode 143 up. I'm not terribly sure what their source is, considering neither Kouji, Sunrise, nor Nonmi's mystery informants have said anything yet, but IIFJ tends to be pretty reliable with this sort of thing: Chichi o Tazunete Sanzen-riThree Thousand Miles to Visit my FatherI'm going to withhold putting this up on my site until I get official confirmation of the title (which should happen within a day or so). I also don't normally start new threads to announce new episode titles, but this one brings up a couple interesting questions: Who is "Father"? And is this episode canon? It comes after the introduction of Hakudoushi, which should lead into the Headless Youkai storyline, with Kanta's father and Sesshoumaru's father's grave. So, there's definitely the "father" theme going on there, but none of it really has anything to do with traveling great distances for a "visit" (the unit of measurement in the title is a "ri", which is about two and a half miles, so the actual distance in the title is more like seven thousand miles). So, who is "chichi"? Kanta's father? Sesshoumaru's father? Or... ... Kagome's father? No matter where you are, travelling seven thousand miles would put you outside of Japan. It's also a much more believable distance to travel in the present era. The only issue is that "ri" is a unit of distance that's not really in use anymore, so it seems weird to refer to a modern-day trip in that unit. Granted, this could also be some completely different "father" entirely. The title almost suggests Sesshoumaru's father, being the only father-figure in the series ever referred to as "chichi" (the others have been "tou-san", "oyaji" and "papa"). Besides, it's about time for Sesshoumaru to show up again, anyway, given he seems to do something about every ten episodes or so. So, are we going to have a Movie 3 tie-in immediately following the Movie 2 tie-in? Gah, I hope Kouji updates his blog soon. Hopefully he can shed some light on this.

Has there been any reference to Kagomes father in any of the episodes? If there has Ive missed it...
Shes never once talked about him, looked at a picture of him, or even juts absent mindedly said something referring to him!
Im going to bet that this episode could be about Kagomes father. Besides, three thousand miles! Can you say plane ride...
...pictures Inuyasha on a plane...hehe...
But there has to be some reason Kagomes father hasnt been mentioned as of now. Maybe he will play a signifigant part later on, and this is his introduction...
Just something to think about.

One more little thing. When I do put the title up on my site, what would people rather I translate the distance as? "Three Thousand Ri" or "Seven Thousand Miles"? "Three Thousand Ri" is more accurate, but "Seven Thousand Miles" is more understandable, although it means having to translate the number as well.

Just do seven thousand miles....i dont think anyones going to kill you if the translation is off a bit.
Besides, to me Ri" is more even more confusing....
My input, but you can choose Patches

Well, I messed with the translation, anyway, because apparently the title's a play off of an old anime series "Haha o Tazunete Sanzen-ri", which was translated into English as "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother". So, I think I'll go with that (except change "Mother" to "Father" as the episode title has done).
It also turns out that "Sanzen-ri" is just a metaphorical statement meaning "a long distance", not the 7000 miles specifically, so I guess the number isn't quite as important as I thought it was.
But, if this is the case, this episode might very well be canon about Kanta looking for his dad. There's still a possibility that it's about Kagome and her dad or someone else and their dad, but... with this interpretation of the title, the Kanta thing starts fitting a little better.

Excuse my ignorance, Patches, but who is Kanta? I have seen all the episodes up till 137 and one of the movies and I dont recall this character. Is he/she in the manga only so far?

Yeah, Kanta's a one-shot character in the manga who'll show up shortly. He's an otter demon who makes friends with Shippou. *spoiler, if you don't wanna know* Kanta's dad got beheaded by Hakudoushi, so Shippou really feels for him. Kanta's been carrying around his father's head looking for his body in the small hope he can be restored. They find the body, but it's already too late. Luckily, Sesshoumaru happens to be around, so they pester him into reviving Kanta's dad. Once he does, the dad gives out some plot information.

In response to patches spoiler...spoiler response warning (if there is such a thing...well there is now cause I MADE IT UP) anyway, text in white!
Good old sesshy, reviving otter demons for the heck of it. But why would Sesshoumaru, son on one of the greatest demons in Japan, hater of all humans and weak things, stoop down to revive an otter demon after its son associated with humans?? ...Softy... Now one big question is what will Sess be like at the end of the series? Hes already changed alot as of now, and hopefully theres another large amount of episodes coming. So what will eh be like...? Questions that need answers, and Sesshoumarus that need partners...cough cough

Well, Sesshy isn't all evil, after all ^^;; Anyways, I always wondered why Inuyasha characters talk about their weapons as though they were people?
***"I've been abusing her(Hiraikotsu) too much lately...".
Or when Sesshy uses Tenseiga and his excuse is that it(Tenseiga) wanted him to do it... ^^;; LoL
~~~
Another thing, why do they have to yell out their attack before using them? Wouldn't that just alert their enemies? Like when Sango yells out "Hiraikotsu", and then throws it, isn't that kinda dumb... ^^;; I dunno. Or yelling "Kazaana" alert the enemy and give them a chance to move away or escape? ^^;;
~~~
And yeah, I've noticed that there haven't been many posts lately. But lucky for me, I have all of this week off from school. ^__^

Or yelling "Kazaana" alert the enemy and give them a chance to move away or escape? ^^;; It's a cardinal rule of the Univere of Animation. When you have something so cool as a Tessaiga, or Kaze no Kizu, or Bakuryuuha, or Hiraikotsu... screaming out its name just proved how darn cool it is. One of the Commandments of Anime. The rate of success and liklihood of damage done to an enemy is directly proportional to the volume, length, and intensity at which you scream the attack name. And if your move is so cool as to warrant THREE camera angles filmed at various speeds, you're even more kickass than normal. *nods sagely* That is indeed why. --- As for episode 143... heck, I'm just happy as peanuts that my Doushi-boi is showing up at long last. I kinda liked the Kanta bit, and if it DOES turn out that this is the story of Kanta, hopefully that means that the series will be a little more back on track for the next stretch of awesomeness. This next stretch was (and still is) one of my favorites!

Okay, Kouji has his (unfortunately abridged) commentary up for 143. Chokyuukai's back. That means this episode is probably about Kanta's father. See, Chokyuukai actually was in the manga originally, though he was never named and never actually got to do anything except get stomped on by Entei and have Hakudoushi steal his spear. And Hakudoushi used said spear to hack off Kanta's father's head. How pleasant. ^_^
Granted, there's still the whole "decapitation taboo" the anime seems to have, so whether or not this really will be the "Headless Youkai" story is yet to be seen.

Wow. I wonder if that means they're gonna be a little liberal with his character, since... didn't he only have like, two panels in the manga? And no lines?
Maybe when he ran off in episode 129, he also decided to go and renegotiate his contract for more air time.

Well, I guess episode 142 answered the question of Hakudoushi's naginata. Heh-heh.
And *TOPIC BUMPAGE* since 143 just aired and, well, since there's a topic dedicated to it, might as well fill it with actual talk about the episode.
So... I'm actually watching the episode as I type. Heh-heh. And I mentioned this on AF, but uber-Sango had me giggling for an unhealthy amount of time. ^_^
And after the intensity of the last few episodes, this one actually started off with a breath of fresh humor. And Kanta is ADOREABLE! XD
"Inuyasha is strong!" (*nodnod*) "Even if he does act pretty immature." (*SNAP* *WHACK!*)
And good grief, Hakudoushi is EXACTLY the cold, badass little Evil Naraku Mini-Me I'd always imagined he'd be. Boy, I bet Daddy Naraku is proud.
"He's all grown up and... beheading people. *sniffles*" ^_^

Or yelling "Kazaana" alert the enemy and give them a chance to move away or escape? ^^;; I'd bet money it's because a lot of anime are based on manga, and in manga it's not always easy to tell what's going on. Kenshin has drawn his sword and swung, but the reader can't tell if that's Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu Ryutsuisen until he announces it (or until Yahiko or Sanosuke announces it). Even in the Inuyasha manga it's a little hard sometimes to tell if Inuyasha's just swinging Tessaiga or kaze no kizuing. It's a *little* easier when Sango chucks the tasselled surfboard, or when Miroku let's the prayer beads fly and starts sucking in rocks... Seriously, no one's wondering, "Gee... is he using kazaana.. or...?" but if you're going to have on character scream out attack names, might as well make them all do it. Makes the one seem less freakish. Anyway, that's what I think. I like Kuro's explanation better, though... =)

Heckyeah! 143 was awesome! I watched it once, then immediately watched it again, it was so good. I haven't cried during an Inu episode since way back in the early episodes with the Tatarimokke and the little ghost girl. But, man, even though Ikeda's the art director, somehow her episodes seem to get the right mix of everything story-wise, too. This one had humor, uber-cuteness, uber-sadness, and of course the awesome Ikeda artwork. I think this is a good illustration of that. On the right, we have Inu looking all badass and awesome, and on the left... Kanta being funny and cute. ^_^
