You know it would have been nice if Takahashi explained WHY the Tenseiga couldn't save her. It was the first thing I thought would happen when I read the chapter before. Did I miss the explaination in an earlier chapter?

I think it's because the Tenseiga works something like this: when a person (or youkai or whatever) dies, little creatures from the next realm come and take the soul from the body. Tenseiga can only harm creatures from that realm, so it can be used to kill the creatures that take the soul before they take it from the body, thus restoring the person (or youkai or whatever) to life. It also seems to possibly have the ability to heal those it brings back to life.
Now, in Kagura's case, her injury wasn't all that terrible (nothing worse than what she's shaken off before). It was the shouki that was the problem, and to get rid of shouki, it needs to be purified. So far, neither Tenseiga nor Sesshoumaru have shown any ability to purify shouki. Actually, only Kagome and (probably) Kikyou would have that ability. As for reviving her, as soon as Kagura died, her body became wind, so the aforementioned process of resurrection via Tenseiga never begins (no body for the creatures to take the soul from, so they never appear and so can't be killed by Tenseiga, etc.). Besides, even if her soul was kept in this realm, it has no body to inhabit.
Disclaimer: this is only my opinion/viewpoint on the subject at hand, based on what I have read in the manga and watched in the anime. This is not necessarily what actually happens, but it is the way I percieve it.
...I put WAY too much thought into this...
Edit: As an afterthought, I did find it interesting that if Kagura HAD been able to be saved by Tenseiga, it seems to me that Sesshy woulda done it.

Did I miss the explaination in an earlier chapter? P She did, though, but it was only implied. Check out pages 11 and 12. Sesshoumaru goes to draw Tenseiga. He focuses his glance on Kagura. He sees that there are no little underworld dudes hovering around her for him to kill. Thus he comments to himself that Tenseiga would be useless on her.

Hmmm, well, that does make sense. I just never assumed the Tenseiga was so limited. I always thought it was as powerful as Tetsusaiga (destruction), just in it's own way (healing).

I can't watch an episode with Kagura in it (which is like, every other one!) without getting misty eyed now! Sigh......Kagome, why did you have to be the late one this time? At least Kagura died with a smile on her face

Now I can post... I feel really bad about Kagura dying. I must say I never expected that and I'm half-expecting her to return, though I also know that is impossible. What a wonderful chapter, makes me hate Sunrise for not animating it anytime soon... Man I loved that "I am the wind... the free wind" thing in the last page... brought tears into my eyes (thing that happens next to never). I'm so glad she was at least happy when she died... she did find out what it was to be free in the very end...

When you really think about it, did she really die, or did she just change forms? I mean as far as the story is concerned, yes she's gone, but she's still around; she's just not a hot looking girl anymore. It's a happy ending from her prespective P

I hate it when characters die, but she was my FAVORITE!!! Next to Sesshou, of course. I still can't believe it. BTW, hi, I'm new. ;D

Nice to meet you Chizuru!
I wrote a song for Kagura...(with lots of help from my rhyming dictionary of course) least I could do...
Naraku has finally been moved to my "I hate you because you are a big fat meanie" list, up there with Bellatrix Lestrangle and Renkotsu...
...though I still admire Naraku's calculating mind...
