I think that old man is just a man who has enough fire in his belly to fix Inu-Yasha's sword! I don't think he's a demon at all, it's probably just a spell or curse. Don't take my information seriously, listen to the rest of them instead or read them  |

I personally think he's a lizard... although that's not very likely. For now just think of him as the 'swordsmith'.

I think he is a reptile because in ep.34:Tessaiga and Tenseiga, there was a part when Toutousai made Inuyasha take his sword out to fight him. Toutousai then took out a piece of leather and licked it. His tongue was all skinny and long. But why can he blow out fire? This is just a guess so it may not be true.

"No-idea-what-kind-of-demon-he-is" kind of ones? Like Jinenji? Or the demon that Jinenji fights?

Isn't Jinenji a horse or something??? Well anyways Toutousai's demon type is something Takahashi could cover in the 100 chapters.

This is like one of those questions Inu-papa answered... (Weirdly, after I read the "Ask Papa" questions and answers, I memorize them for no reason necessary  ) Toutousai doesn't have to be a animal demon.He can just be an ordinary demon made up the...whatever. |

Heh, yeah. That's about what I was thinking. My (extremely limited) understanding of youkai is that they needn't be limited to animals, plants, or geographical features... Seems sort of a fine line between youkai, mononoke, and minor gods in Japanese mythology.
Anyway, so I always assumed Toutousai was some kinda benign forge spirit. ::shrug::
