Chapter 102 is up. A certain character finally comes back after a 70-chapter absence. I'm sure you were all dying to see her again.

Hey, so I got ambitious and Puppy and I spent the weekend setting up a TVTropes page for "Memoirs". You can get to it here: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/MemoirsFeel free to browse or add stuff of your own. Note that the "Characters" tab at the top also exists and goes to a sub-page of character-specific tropes for the major characters. Generally I'm trying to keep it organized in that the main page is for tropes fulfilled by the narrative style or specific story events, whereas the Characters page is for tropes that mostly just apply to a character's personality, motives, or abilities.

Chapter 103 up. From here on out, I'm starting to take off the kid gloves and hitting some kind of heavy topics with less vague and censored terminology than has been used up until now. Mini-me's gotta grow up if this story is gonna get anywhere. That's not to say the story's just going to be ~gloooom~ from here on out, since I hate perpetual downers, but we are starting to get into the grit of "stuff".
Also, for everyone's convenience, the individual chapters now have "Back" and "Next" links so that you don't have to hunt for the next chapter in the drop-down anymore. Eventually I'd like for it to have the page you're currently on be the default selection in the drop-down on each page, but with the way the script is currently written, that's not really feasible at this time.

Finally chapter 104 is up. I've been beating my head over this chapter for weeks making sure it had the right tone and content, but didn't spontaneously break my self-imposed "rating", yet still did the material justice. Hopefully I was at least marginally successful. The chapter image is adorable, at least. :3

Hey, I don't know if you remember me, but I have a birthday present for you. Here it is.I love Memoirs SO much... you have no idea. Wow... just... wow. Thank you so much! That is certainly very impressive. And quite informative. I'd wondered just how many pages/words worth of stuff I'd written for this so far. I just write up each chapter in its own text file with HTML formatting and post them, so I don't have them in any sort of compilation to be able to tell how many words/pages it runs in total. Also, I don't spellcheck anything, either, so I'm sure there are spelling errors here and there. ^_^* As for getting it bound and printed, though, that I'd have to decline. As it is a fan work based on an existing property, the only reason that this story is tentatively legal is that there is no exchange of money for its distribution. A bound copy that you have to pay for would go against that, and I would really rather not get into that. However, I would love to see volume images done by you for each one. And I would also have no problem hosting all of the volumes on my site in downloadable format so that fans can have offline compilations as well, if you're okay with that (you put the work into those after all, so it's your call as to who gets access to them). Again, thank you so much for doing this, and continuing to follow the story when I was starting to feel like I was only writing this for myself nowadays. ^_^* I'm glad it's given you so much enjoyment, and I hope it continues to do so in the future.

Oh, I didn't mean one that would be up for sale, I just meant for you to have a physical copy for yourself. I'm sure that wouldn't go into any troublesome grounds, and you'd get to have a copy of Memoirs on your table. I've got no problem with you putting the volumes and such up on the site. It's your story, and your present, so it's out of my hands now. xD I am concerned about the divide between 5 and 6 though. Should I take that out, or move it? Oh, and I also figured, in addition to helping you see it in scope and motivate you, I figured it would help you be able to quickly go back and find/reference things from earlier chapters. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Because of the infrequent posts, I thought that you may not see it for a few weeks. EDIT: I fixed some errors I'd made with the headers and footers, and reformatted the pages to be the standard 6x9" size. Here's the fixed version. Sorry about that; I guess it was late.

I'm sure that wouldn't go into any troublesome grounds, and you'd get to have a copy of Memoirs on your table. Even if it's not publicly for sale, you'd still have to pay money to get it published and to buy it off the publisher. I want precisely zero dollars to go towards this work (webhosting fees notwithstanding). I'd say to wait and judge that until more is written. The current arc will (hopefully) be finishing up within the next... 20 chapters or so, and the end of this is the absolute dividing point of the first "half" and second "half" of the entire story. So it would be better to divide to make sure that the end of this arc falls on a divide. Actually, having it on the computer is easier. ^_^* I have all the Inuyasha manga volumes in hard copy that I bought, but I also have scans of all of them on my computer so that they're easy to cross-reference without having to go dig out my books and thumb through them. Plus with digital version, I can easily do text searches so I can quickly find places where certain characters or concepts were mentioned. So the compilation version should actually prove quite helpful, so I don't have to go through individual files on my text searches. Oh, I check this forum multiple times a day. I just don't really say anything since no one's replied to anything I've said in a few months, so I figure no one else is reading it. ^_^*

Gah, so many misunderstandings. I must be really bad at talking, aren't I? I meant having a searchable PDF compilation would be easier than having to look through all your html files. My bad. xD I can't wait to see how the story progresses. And fyi, that last chapter image, and that whole last scene... I actually cried. You've gotten me so emotionally worked up over this story, and that's not easy to do. You're an amazing writer.

You've gotten me so emotionally worked up over this story, and that's not easy to do. You're an amazing writer. I may be an amazing writer, but my reading comprehension is almost zero, so I'm not surprised at a misunderstanding. XD I nearly failed English class in high school because I could not for the life of me answer questions on books I had to read (though I could spell and diagram a sentence like a boss. Probably why I ended up in a science field rather than a liberal arts field). And, yes, I was totally loving how the latest chapter image turned out. It gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies. The chapter itself, though, dear lord. Puppy can attest to just how many times the damn thing was rewritten until I could come up with something that both said what I wanted to say, and was still within my unstated "rating" (which is why the chapter was still mostly all euphemisms and metaphors). I originally tried to write it straight, but realized that it was such a massive and sudden tone shift from the rest of the story that it just did not sit right with me, so I had to rewrite the whole thing. One rewrite was just Akagane relating the events of a sexual assault he was the victim of while on the road when he was younger, but I scrapped the whole thing when I realized this was not the direction I wanted to take it. So that ended up just getting covered in a single vague line of "I learned about this the hard way". I agonized for weeks over making sure I was respectful enough of the material while still maintaining a consistent tone. I'm still not 100% satisfied with it (I'd intended to mention Akagane's dad being a deadbeat who left before his village was destroyed, so is potentially still alive somewhere, but in the last rewrite there was no organic way to work that information in without derailing the conversation), but it was "good enough" for what I needed, and I was just sick of editing it. XD

Don't worry, I'm sure the chance will arise again. xD Akagane will tell you when the time is right. Or not.. >.> He does shift back and forth between wanting it all to be about him, and keeping everything locked up tight. That's got to be frustrating.

Hark! My Puppy senses are telling me I've been mentioned! The chapter itself, though, dear lord. Puppy can attest to just how many times the damn thing was rewritten until I could come up with something that both said what I wanted to say, and was still within my unstated "rating" (which is why the chapter was still mostly all euphemisms and metaphors). What ho, I was correct! Anyway, as for rewrites: I think this chapter underwent something like two near total rewrites and countless smaller revisions that ranged from editing a few sentences to entire paragraphs. There were a lot of preemptive discussions on the subject matter and quite a bit of hemming and hawing over where exactly to draw the line such that the topic was addressed in plain enough terms, but still tasteful. Ultimately it was decided that the way the topic was discussed needed to serve the story as a whole, and as the first two incarnations of the chapter weren't really relevant to the greater plot, they were revised. ...but it was "good enough" for what I needed, and I was just sick of editing it. XD That doesn't even do justice to how 'done' you were with this chapter when you posted it xD. In my time spent beta reading this story Inu-papa has only seriously asked me to ghost write a chapter for him one other time, and that was around chapter 80. Granted, neither the bit I wrote then nor the bit I wrote for this chapter made it into the posted chapter, but still. You were so sick of this chapter you didn't even want to finish it yourself x3. Also also, the compiled Memoir's Saga is absolutely amazing Taisira!

Well, I'm glad that despite all the headache over the chapter, it still came out fantastic!

April Fool's chapter is up for one day only, then the actual chapter 105 will be posted the morning of the 2nd. However, I'm going to be adding a section to the Picture Book page for bonus text material and will use it to archive this and past year's April Fool's chapters, along with any other kinds of side or bonus stories that might come up. Or, hell, even other people's fanfiction for the story, if anything like that ever happens.

And now the actual chapter is up. We've got another ancestor thrown into the mix now. Puppy and I have nicknamed him "Spermy", since that's what his name would more commonly mean (and what prompted Akagane to make the "Your father must have been very proud of you" quip). His name is actually one of the Buddhist bodhisattvas, like Miroku's is, and means "Arrival of great strength".
