Does Takahashi still draw the manga herself? Or does she now have others do it in her name? The style seems to be different now then it used to be. The characters are more angular and less femanine.
Also there just isn't enough time in the week to draw, ink and ziptoone an 18 page story and still be able to do all the other things she's doing, other series, consulting with movie makers and series creators, not to mention the time it takes to write this stuff. I figure there must be multiple people working on it.

well I have the same guess... besides the style is much more anime-ized right now and less childish.

Yeah, I think Rumiko Takahashi is just changing her style a bit, or alot. I mean compare Urusei Yatsura to Inuyasha. Drawing style is different. Similar thing happened to me too. I draw differently to how I used to draw two years ago. See www.geocities.com/roxybudgy/Art.htmlThe fan art on this page is my more recent work whereas as the two manga pages at the bottom are around 1 & 1/2 years old. My drawing style changed. Perhaps that's what happened to Takahashi. Also, Takahashi does have assistants working with her. I think she mentions them in one of her autobiographical manga.

It's my impression that most mangaka have assistants/apprentices --that's how ya get into the business.
I have no facts to base this on, but I have the feeling Takahashi draws and inks the characters (I love her inking... So elegant, yet free spirited. I wonder if she even draws pencil guides first) and lets assistants bother with backgrounds, buildings and ziptones. There are a couple of different styles in the pages... You can tell for example, that a lot of the trees and rocks are done by the same hand as the characters, but then there are also these almost architect-precise drawings of rooms and buildings, in modern Tokyo especially (or rather. Tokyo, since there was no sengoku jidai Tokyo). Somehow I just don't see the same person who draws Inuyasha sitting down with a T-square and mapping out Kagome's school.
One thing I noticed that absolutely amazed me... In all the flashback scenes, she could very have reused previous images, but she actually bothers to draws them again. I mean, wow. When re-drawing an image is easier than recycling... That's an artist.

Nice art, roxy. I agree with echo. For the most part, all characters are still designed and drawn by Takahashi, and backgrounds are managed by her assistants. I remember I read that somewhere. Unfortunately, I can't remember where that was exactly. ^^; Really though, to me it looks like drawing architectural designs and buildings is more tedious then drawing anime characters. But then again, who knows? It depends on what you like to draw, I suppose. Or what you're best at. Or something. Takahashi: Konnichi wa, so who do we have here? Assistant #1: I am your architect. Assistant #2: I am your landscape specialist Assistant #3: I am your ziptone coordinator. Assistant#4: I draw rocks! Takahashi: . . . ;D

Thanks for letting me know. Personally I like this newer style a lot better then the cutsie look of before. Really though, to me it looks like drawing architectural designs and buildings is more tedious then drawing anime characters. But then again, who knows? It depends on what you like to draw, I suppose. Or what you're best at. Or something. Well, once you are familiar with the way the human body REALLY looks, then drawing anime characters are a piece of cake and organic subjects naturally lend themselve to be draw freehand and there is really not that much that needs to drawn with most characters when you get right down to it--even Sesshoumaru. But drawing architecture always takes time and is tedious due to all the detail involved. Time adds up when you have to sync up your ruler and pen with every line no matter how well you know your subject. Another question: Does anyone know what Takahashi is like in person? Does she make herself accessable at all to the fans, ie, conventions and such? P

I think she does. I remember reading an interview of Takahashi and she went to a convention after finishing Ranma 1/2. She also had Rumiko Theatre I believe, a manga journal entry about what happened.

Well, that would be really cool if she does. I know the comic book creators here in the US have always been very aproachable. But I believe manga artists tend to have more of a celebraty status in Japan. I would love to send her some of pictures of my fan art with a letter of apreciation for creating Inuyasha, but I wonder if she would ever see it. I'm kinda leaning tward no P

Unless you wrote it in Japanese... can Rumiko Takahashi read English?
Remember how Inuyasha use to have a doggy nose? Her style changed a lot during the past few years...

Yeah, I would probably get someone to translate it for me before I sent it.
I either forgot or never noticed the doggie nose. I'll have to go check that out LOL!

::snort:: The dog nose! The single greatest unexplained mystery of the Inuyasha universe! It really drove me crazy for a while...

Wow I had never noticed that.
But I don't think it was Takahashi's intention to give him a dog nose, it looks like his nose's shadow. I suppose she noticed this and that's why she changed it.
