I'm a brandie new fan of IY and quickly becoming utterly obsessed with it (which I'm sure you all can understand ;D ) Kuro & Patches - your summaries and translations of the episodes (manga & anime) are not only invaluable to completely foreign language-incapable folks like myself, but your comments have had me just *rolling* over the past week. I've managed to fairly quickly absorb the meanings of the various terms, nicknames and in-jokes (i.e. the "fluffy" LOL), but there's one thing that's got me stumped: What the heck is "pwning" "pwness", etc. I get the gist of what it is (openin' up a can o' whupass), but the term itself has me stumped - pwn? Me confused... -- Suze

"PWN" is a take-off of the slang "OWNED!" When someone has been beaten (like in a game, or something), or if something is being described as beeing a hell of a lot better than something, the better thing/winner is said to have "OWNED!" the other. Or the loser/worse thing is said "to have been OWNED!" "PWNED" came about because the "P" and the "O" are really close together on the keyboard, so it was easy to typo the word as "pwned." Then it just became a whole slang of its own.
