Ok the new art director in the latest episode(150) was way different. I mean I was not really expecting the facial expression to change that much. I have to agree with patches on the cutest part being the scene with shippo and kirara and their shaking tails!! My question is did anyone else think that they were just a little more cutesy than before especially miroku? Just a personal observation but I found him drawn way cuter than he normally is.
I thought I would start a thread that wasn't episode specific but still on this topic.

I kinda think the characters had more realistic proportions in their facial features, mostly in the eyes being smaller. At least, when they weren't big, exaggerated expressions like Shippou and Kirara. XD I also noticed that the timing was a little different, too. When Kagome fired her arrow (I think it was Kagome's arrow... can't remember if it was her or Hijiri-sama) in one scene, the arrow shoots through the air, with the camera following it, and then it looks like it "jumps ahead." Hadn't really seen an arrow attack using that kind of timing before. But yeah, things looked really different. But very nice. I loved the background artwork, too. ^_^

Yeah, this episode got a new animation director, which is why it looked different from what you're used to. Actually, as of late the series has only had about three recurring animation directors, so we're most accustomed to seeing stuff like this: Sakuma Shin'ichi I'm not really a big fan of this guy, but he seems to be put in charge of the more episodes than any of the other directors. Sometimes his stuff is okay, but most of the time it just looks kinda "eh". Nakanishi Mamiko I like her okay. Actually... I don't really have an opinion of her, since her artwork is mostly "this is how the series should look, and there's nothing great or bad about it". Ikeda Shouko ::glomp:: Saving the best for last. I luffs teh Ikeda and Kyoto Animation. Stuff she does always looks good and is animated top-notch. I guarantee you, at least 70% of the screenshots people use as their favorite images come from episodes she's done (which is quite a feat, since she's only responsible for about 15% of the total episodes).

I'm guessing then that Ikeda is the one that did the Fuki Mori (sp?) ending and episodes and 5,6,7? I know thats the references I used when I was first learning how to draw Sesshoumaru. Even before I ever saw the model sheet, I prefered that version the most.
By the way, does anyone know who did episodes 115 and 116? I haven't seen all the episodes, but the outlines were a lot bolder with sharper angles. I haven't seen that style before in the series or sense.

Actually, I don't think Ikeda did any of the key animation in the openings or endings. I know the credits say somewhere who did it, but I don't have "Fukai Mori" on hand at the moment. 115 and 116 were done by... uh... Nakajima and Sakuma, respectively, I think. ::checks:: Yeah, those two. I mean, I've got the list on the site if you're ever curious as to which episode is done by who.

Hmm, well, I guess, Hishinuma is the one I was thinking about then.
As for Ikeda, I'll half to go back watch "Father's old Enemy" since I have that one on my computer and see if I may have missed something special this artist.
And it aprears that Nakajima is a real wild card. Often he/she does good work, yet at the same time, the most off-character episodes seem to be done by him/her. Like with episode 96. Sesshoumaru looks awful in that episode and so does Rin at times.
