Already a battlefield...
I showed up in the morning. H at the desk had stayed two days in the studio and looked sleepy while checking cut lists. He didn't sleep at all last night. Animator Y-chan (a girl) was sprawled out on the desk taking a nap. She'd also spent the night at the studio. Other people making progress during the last half of September got maybe two or three hours of sleep a night. Part supervisor S-san left the office at 1:00 in the morning last night and came back in at 6:00am. CG operator F-chan also stayed all night writing up the opening title. Director N-kun and photographer S-san were also napping in the conference room. This has already become the norm at the Inu studio.
While people aren't in their seats, I look around at the cuts piled up on everyone's desks. There are a heavy amount of cuts scattered about, and without thinking I said out loud that it was an impressive layout with lots of pictures all around. It's been a half a year, and it looks like it's become an impressive piece of work... however, in reality, there is no "if".
I gathered up the ending theme and worked on image simulation on my computer. I watched the song's spectrum and carefully allotted the timing for all the cuts. While in the middle of that job, I got a phonecall from I-pro to attend a publicity meeting. A big problem had arisin (details come later?) when U-pro contacted me as well. Since that studio usually does travel serials, I was getting more and more depressed that I couldn't do both.
F-chan gave me a progress update on the main title. The scattered details had finally been brought together, and its form had been accomplished. It gets points for strength, since it appears to be the most flashy main title yet. Even so, this is still the seventh hurdle.
I saw at least seven color-checks that U-san had collected.
Yesterday it seems that YTV showed up collecting information. (I was very much absent) It was stuff for their homepage, so I think that'll get updated in the near future.
2004/10/15 Er... besides the update it got three days ago? ^_^*

Hey, he's finally back! Short post, but at least it's something. And looks like Toshi's found the blog, too, since he left a comment on the BBS. XD Someone left an incoherent comment in English, too, which I would not reccommend doing. Anyway... The weather is nice and I want to escape...
I was in the studio around 11:00 in the morning. There were already quite a few people working. I had a discussion with E-part's director T-chan about its contents. I was confused about one part, and had to deal with a number of alterations made to the contents. One of the mistakes was, in regards to the general audience, there are a lot of parts that the might not understand clearly, and it was something quite embarrassing for we producers to see. Yikes yikes.
As was usually, the staff made quick work checking the cuts on their desks. Oh, in the C-part continuity, "This is the coolest Shippou face in the movie" was written on one of the cuts. It is a nice face! I also got a large number of rough images from S-san. These are also really cool. With regards to S-san, getting pictures from great people leaves me with a lot to learn.

XD You know, the reply (I think we're talking about the same English post since I couldn't find any others...) was giggle-worthy, too.
I can just see him there, going, "The Americans have found me! AAaaaRrrGGHH!!" XD

Blah, now that I'm back from school, I can get to work on yesterday's post. He hasn't posted anything yet today, though, but it's still a tad early. Compiling the pamphlet
In the evening was information collection for the pamphlet. I'm actually pretty bad at information-collecting. There were microphones set up on the table in the conference room that day, and I just zoned out and couldn't think of anything to say. This was all for publicity, at least I think so, so I had to push myself...
I think the Inuyasha pamphlet is this special booklet that collects comments and explanations from the staff. This year was like last year in that an interview was conducted, so it's been a year since I've seen Y-san and the other Toho staff. Up until now, the data collection was usually done in November, but due to the general status of things being so messed up, until we gather a lot of data my head won't turn. Certainly there was an interview about the second film as well, but since I was so busy I totally forgot about it, and it's a totally neglected memory. I eventually sent out the manuscript, given that there was no time (I say this, but I was able to think about it while riding the train) and now that I reread it, I understand I was considerably worked up.
After the interview was a photo shoot. Since at this time of year we're usually worn out and searching for our faces (it's not just me), I really don't like photos... Ah well, since I have no talent, I'm told I always have a tired face... I suppose. However, even though we're told to "smile", somehow I'm able to pull at my cheeks. If I'm able to that, I want everything else to pass...

Editing a week ago
I was in the studio at 11:30. There were a number of people there continuing work from last night. Two of those points of (red) light were T-chan and Y-chan, hard at work at something difficult. T-chan particularly has a habit of taking close to half the work for herself. Even when she caught a cold, she only took half a day off. Y-chan had been up all night awaiting the next round of images, which were running late. At this point, when everyone's working on something at once, there are a lot of times where people's paces aren't organized. We've been working for a very long time, and I'm really looking forward to some free time. There are a lot of hard parts, but since I'm able to see the entirety of the staff together, the ability to watch the flow of things is a unique position. There are a lot of times when I just wish I could let my feelings out (I'm also born to work) Today one person who can hopefully help out has shown up. The buff-looking I-kun. He'll be supporting everyone for the next month.
I'm starting to get the epilogue layout (with the rough draft) This year, these are parts that only I get to see. (up until this year I've had parts myself, but this year I don't) For this film I've given the overall authority to assistant supervisor O-kun.
At night, I-pro in charge of backgrounds showed up. The young art director N-kun was working with red eyes. It doesn't look like I'll get to go home much, either.
The main title is almost done. It is necessary to adjust the cuts before and after it a little so that it flows together. Even so, it's annoying. We're laughing and calling it the "fool's title", but even though it seems like I'm staring down a 160kmh fastball, it's still really neat.

XD Funny you should mention that, because today's topic iiiiiiisss... Earthquakes...
I was in the studio in the afternoon. There were a number of people there who had been working all night. After the epilogue layout check was the check of the final draft of the main title. This was the first time I'd seen how the cuts before and after fit together with it, but it doesn't look like it'll be much problem to fix. After that, we'd relegated photographic rendering to VHS, and will later hand it over to composer W-san. While watching that, he'll probably decide which portions need to have music appear.
Last night there was a big earthquake in the central region. I-producer's parent's house has to be over there somewhere. I hope they're okay, but...

Looks like the crew was affected after all. Let's hope that that quake wasn't a prelude to something else - especially something bigger.

The recording script
I got into the studio in the morning, and the layout had been put on my desk for me to check.
The recording script for the first half (A, B, and C parts) came to me. We're given these consecutively, and record who has what number. When these appear out on the market, this is a way of seeing who's it was that let slip out. (lately the company's enforcement of copyright has been unusually strict) I'm pretty sure the first year my copy was in the tens. So, I laughed when they said, "This number is a great order of responsibility", but after that year, I'd always get copy "001". Naturally, in this position, there's no way out of it...
The seiyuu for Asagi has been decided. In reality, I've been doing this recording thing for six years, and this is the first time this year that I can't for the life of me remember the seiyuu's name. There are a lot of past roles where I can say, "Oh, they had that voice", but they're mostly just amateurs. There are a lot of times I look like an idiot in front of my daughter, too.
At night, I showed up to photography. We've held back the updated first trailer photographing to the day after tomorrow, and we discussed the cut check. O-kun's head was being assaulted by an insect. I'd been piecing together the cuts I had been thinking about beforehand, but currently there are a lot of places where my ideas keep changing. Then it was verification, one-by-one, of all the pictures that had been made, as CG is a particularly trial-and-error process. Naturally, we ran out of time and had to hand the materials over to photography, and there were a considerable number of places where I wasn't able to go over the verification thoroughly. (a considerable number, I tell you!) The neighbor T-kun was in the middle of thinking out the cuts on screen. He was using the sheet (the paper that instructs the animation and the camera movement), but now that I think about it, it didn't seem very effective. "What if I increase the blur (shading) on Tessaiga?" "Let's add a scene where the sword extends to take up half the screen" "It doesn't look like the background trackback for the first and second parts match." "Try increasing the strength of the fog (mist filter)" "Should we make that bright stuff even more sparkly?" etcetera, in any case, I'm talking about how it's much closer (by a long shot) to becoming presentable.
H-kun came back to the studio and confirmed the latest schedule. There's a private showing on the 12th, huh? If we can go by the schedule as it is, I'll show up to the private showing with a happy face, but this year's probably pushing us to the eleventh hour again.
2004/10/25 -_-* Suuure he forgot the seiyuu's name. He just doesn't want to tell us. I find it odd that all of the hanyou kids are named after colors. You'd think that name themes like that would only happen amongst people who are, I dunno, related or something. Ai = indigo Asagi = light blue Shion = purple Moegi = yellow-green Roku = green Dai = orange Granted, this means that for all we know, "Guren" is a character's name, making "Guren no Hourai-jima" mean "Guren's Hourai Island". XD "Mine mine mine!" EDIT: You know, now that I think about that for five more seconds, it made me have a scary thought. All the hanyou associated with Hourai-jima are named after a color, which represents their hair or clothing color. Inuyasha is, for some unknown reason, a hanyou associated with Hourai-jima. What color does he wear? What does "Guren" mean? .... Dear god, I hope his "secret" isn't some crazy alias.
