You know, I just had a random thought about this whole "series ending in September thing" after reading a perfectly innocent and unrelated comment on another board:
"Here in England, we call seasons 'series'."
And that got me thinking... is this whole rumor just a mistranslation? Take the Japanese message board post way back in April that got this whole thing started. I read the responses to that post, few as they were, and the statement was more or less ignored, either because no one believed him or because he was stating the obvious.
Now, if we interpret "series" to mean "season", he really is stating the obvious. Programming seasons end in March and September, and series tend to go on month-long breaks at that time. Now, remember Toshi's statement last year that the series was ending in March? Well, the series obviously didn't end in March, but the season did. What if he's making the same mistake this time?
Yes, I know lack of a counter-argument doesn't prove or disprove the original argument, but I'm still saying... it's awfully suspicious that the supposed end of the series is so near, yet no one who actually matters has said anything yet. I'm just trying to figure out where the original rumor came from in the first place.

That does make a lot of sense.

Well, as far as I can see, it's probably not going to end, because the anime has been pretty faithful to the manga so far (with the exception of the Peach Man Dude [Who I for got the name of ], but they added that in later on, so no biggie), and not skipping any manga chapters, along with god knows how many filleres they're going to add, it's pretty safe to say that it won't end. But that's just me.

I keep seeing "August 17th" popping up on messageboards as the date when Sunrise is supposed to make an official announcement. The only source I see are some mysterious "Japanese fansites." Have you been seeing this anywhere, Patches? (curses that I cannot--yet--read Japanese!)

Have you been seeing this anywhere, Patches? The only place I've seen the "August 17th" thing is on the Rumic World message board, and there was no source quoted. If I knew what this mysterious Japanese fansite was, I'd go look at it. August 17th seems like a weird day to make an announcement, though. Sunrise updates their site on the 10th, and the 10th is also the day the September television schedule is released. But, if Sunrise makes an announcement, then the rumor will be substantiated. If not, well... we'll still be twiddling our thumbs until October.

But, if Sunrise makes an announcement, then the rumor will be substantiated. If not, well... we'll still be twiddling our thumbs until October. Sigh. I am NOT a patient person. October is MUCH too far away! I noticed the rumour on the Rumic World mb, it's also appeared on the forums of Inuyashaworld.com (which I normally avoid like the plague, but I as I already mentioned, I'm not a patient person and I'm quite desperate to know the truth!) ;D For what's it's worth, here are two of the posts from that board. I have no idea what "rtmb" is. from "herbkir" More news out of Japan fandom regarding end of Inuyasha there: Yomiuri TV is supposed to announce the ending of Inu on Aug. 17 and begin the promo campaign for the final episodes. That would give about 3 weeks of advance promotion to get the word out to the strayed Inu fans and build up viewer interest in the ending episodes. (That's consistent with what USA TV does regarding promotions for final episodes of their long-running hit series.)
Much though I hate to see Inuyasha end, I just hope the TV series finale is a good one. I could even take having the TV series and manga with different endings, so long as both of them are satisfying.
But the ending, I think, also increases the odds of Adult Swim securing the rest of this series. They and Viz now know how long it will be. And at 167 episodes, AS would be able to run it 4X per week for 10.5 months without a single repeat. The TV showings haven't impaired the Inu DVD sales, so Viz should be likely to strike a deal. They and AS are in negotiations now.
As to the first movie's USA theatrical showings, these won't be general-admission screenings. They are supposed to be by invitation only. I think Anime News Network had the list of dates and cities for movie showings. And they may also have been reported in the archived portion of this thread. (^_*)
and... from "Inu Nagi" ive been seeing it everywhere....and on a very good place where herb also posts at rtmb......i believe my friends that this is the end...or it could be just the beginning.....lets hoep the 1 hour special on september 7th goes out with a bang!

I just heard about the one hour special anime 'series finale' from the Inuyasha info from japan site inuyasha-info.virute.nu/ and i had to check other reliable sources to see is everyone else was as stunned/confused as i was. If the series is 'ending' in a few episodes then why are they airing fillers (together with sesshoumaru-sama / secret flower garden.. these are fillers, right? im blanking out on the cannon right now...) when the 'finale' is like 5 episodes away? I'm inclined to believe patche's musings about the 'series finale' and the 'season finale' because if it was the series finale i think they'd be trying to cram a lot more cannon episodes in there instead of these fillers that keep popping up... tho they do get back on schedule with the shippou epi. well if it does end... didn't this happen with Ranma too?

Yes, Ranma just sort of stopped rather than ending, but Ranma was also suffering from a ratings drop, while Inuyasha even now continues to be in the top five anime programs on TV in Japan.
IIFJ is quoting Toshi's statement from ComicCon, which I trust about as much as his statement last year that the series was ending at episode 150.
I'm wondering what herbkir's "Japanese fandom" sites are. There are a couple that I check with quite often that have made no mention of an August 17th announcement. The 17th just seems like a strange time for Yomiuri to say anything, anyway. The 17th is a Tuesday during the Olympics, for crying out loud. If they were going to make an announcement, you'd think they'd do it on a day when the show actually runs (which would be either the 9th, 23rd, or 30th of this month).
I'm guessing this coming Monday or Tuesday should shed some more light on the matter, as that's when Sunrise will update their site, plus the schedule for the next month will come out.

Oo-kay... I just read a post on a Japanese message board:
I bought an early edition of the anime magazine. I checked, and it didn't indicate that Inuyasha was ending anytime in September. However, the timeslot for Blackjack was given as 7:00 on Mondays, so it seems like it should be ending by October. Basically, no real significant information.

I haven't really read all the posts, but I would like to know will the be making more anime shows later on in the year to keep it going. Like in Japan( I live in the U.S.) it ended a long time ago & is it coming back on it Japan going on from the last Inu-yasha show. Just a confusing question to think about

Question: Do you know if there are any plans for any InuYasha OVAs and two more movies? I'm curious.
