Oh man, just watched Viz's version since it's already up, but my review is already up at Inu Goya so I won't bother reposting it here. I was mostly just curious to see the next episode preview since the NTV run doesn't include it.
So, not only is episode 3 including the Kitsune Inn story, but at least starting the Mujina story as well. I guess they decided to combine all the Shippou filler into one, too. But most importantly, I was checking out the episode title, to see what they were dubbing Meidou Zangetsuha as. And they are calling it...
... Meido Zangetsuha.
Guess even Viz found that term as ridiculously untranslateable as I did. XD; Though it creates an incontinuity as being the only untranslated attack name (though the dub did say "Bakuryuuha" once before switching to "Backlash Wave").
Just... bawww, ugly art. Sakuma, why did you have to come back? At least the Sesshoumaru clips looked a lot better than usual Sakuma fare.

He used Souryuuha. In the anime. Dear God. That was supposed to stay a movie-only attack. On another note, it wasn't quite the logistical nightmare (ish) that I was expecting after the first episode. I'm a little bummed that some of my favorite parts got cut, like the ripe persimmon bit and Kagome & Shippo hiding from Sesshoumaru behind Inuyasha. And no mention of Mouryoumaru having the adamant spears. And the subs ruined a perfectly good emotional scene by saying "He pumped a full load of miasma into me." I'm sorry, but no matter how clean I was thinking at the time, that came way out of left field and threw me off. The scene with Kagura at the end though got me, though. Wasn't the best, but it effectively made me sad. And I'm very scared for the state of the Hell arc. Considering that everything is blazing through like grease lightning. I was also thinking that, geez, if they're blazing through all of this stuff so fast, I've gotta wonder whether the end is going to drag once they don't have as much stuff left to cover.

Well, this week's pacing was actually reasonable. They really expanded on the fox magic exam for this episode, but I feel like it worked (even with Mujina kind of tacked on). Or maybe they didn't, and it just feels longer to me because it's anime. Either way, It looks like next week might be a bit more schizophrenic, though. On the plus side, it also looks like Byakuya'll be showing up right in time to spy on the Dakki fight. On a totally unrelated note, during the commercial break smack in the middle of the kitsune magic exams, I got an ad for the Michael J. Fox foundation. I lol'd.

I was more wondering what the hell Sesshoumaru was doing in that preview. Between getting MZ and his mother showing up, his canon appearances consist of:
- Inuyasha finding piles of oni bits and wondering WTF Sesshoumaru's up to. - Sucking up the demon puddle and telling Inuyasha that Tessaiga DS is stupid - Having Jaken sneeze for him during the Kinka-Ginka fight - Saving Kohaku from Byakuya after Kikyou ditched him to go be miko-y.
... None of which aside from the first really fit anywhere, but the preview didn't look much like "making bigger meidou". He was just kinda... standing there. And Rin looked asleep.
The only thing I can think is that the anime added a bit where Sesshoumaru and Byakuya meet because their first canon meeting during the Meioujuu battle was cut, however Sesshoumaru already recognized Byakuya in Black Tessaiga, so they had to have met before that.

I was wondering too. Especially since it flashed to Sesshoumaru after showing Byakuya with a shard - and we don't see that kind of scenario until after Shishinki (with a mirror shard, not a shikon shard).
Hopefully, it's as you say, and they're simply expanding on how Sesshoumaru and Byakuya meet in light of the anime changes. It'll be interesting to see the anime's take on things anyway, since I always interpreted Sesshoumaru going after Byakuya the first time they met as evidence that he was still rattled by Kagura's death. Until Kagura died, Sesshoumaru never actively went after detachments - he always focused on the proper target: Naraku - and later on, Naraku's heart. The only detachment he really dealt with was Kagura, and that was because she always sought him out.
After her death, however, he was much more willing to side-track himself by going after Byakuya instead of staying fully focused on Naraku.
If the anime wanted to, it could play up Sesshoumaru wandering around the mountains slaying oni while trying to strengthen his sword, especially since Inuyasha starts following this messy trail to find out what he's up to. Unfortunately, that might not make as much sense in the anime because the animators cut out the bit where Toutousai explains to Sesshoumaru that he needs to strengthen the crescent into a full circle, which I think wasn't a good thing, because it's quite important that Sesshoumaru thinks he has to physically strengthen his sword when Toutousai was really saying he needed to strengthen his compassionate heart.
I wasn't a fan of this week's episode. As a comedy episode, I think it worked very well, and I liked how the examination was covered and the way they decided to use it to introduce the Dragon-Scale storyline. I just don't feel mixing in the much more serious storyline of Tenseiga's reforging worked. With the episode three-quarters comedy, I simply couldn't get into the mindset needed to fully appreciate the nuances of Sesshoumaru's storyline.

This. I liked that Shippou got his chance to shine, as it were, but it just, didn't feel right mixing them together. However, otherwise I was quite happy with this week's episode.

I just saw "Kohaku's Shard." I laughed so hard, I think I hurt myself, when InuYasha Kaze no Kizued the cockroach. And the kitchen sink. And the kitchen wall. I think he needs to bring some "adamant" from Kongôsôha to pay for the damage. Hahaha.

Just a comment, having just read the review on Inugoya for this episode; that is, in fact, not new music. I recognized it right away; it's from the first OST, and the name of it is 邪気 (That's Jyaki, or "evil power" for those of you who can't read kanji). I know this because I'm probably the only American there is who actually purchased hard copies of every one of the IY OSTs. ._.;;

But... it still brings up the question, has that track actually ever been used before elsewhere in the series? Because I don't recognize it at all from any other scene.

D: In fact, I wondered the same thing, because the first time I listened to the OST and that came on, my second reaction was "...wtf? I don't think I've ever heard this before." Of course, my first reaction was to nearly wet myself because that track is majorly freaky and I completely was not expecting it.

Well, if they've never actually used that track before, then I can still call it "new". But I'm still holding out hope for "real" new BGM because the description of the "Inuyasha Best Song History" CD that comes out in March is as such:
TVƒVƒŠ[ƒYuŒ¢–é³vƒI[ƒvƒjƒ“ƒO•ƒGƒ“ƒfƒBƒ“ƒO ‘S18‹È Œ€ê”ÅuŒ¢–é³vŽå‘è‰Ì•‘}“ü‰Ì V‹K§ìBGMW
"Inuyasha" TV Series Openings & Endings, All 18 Songs "Inuyasha" Theatrical Theme Songs & Insert Songs NEWLY-PRODUCED BGM COLLECTION
Just because we haven't heard anything new yet doesn't mean we won't. Slayers Next and Slayers Try both had fully-scored final episodes (actually, the final four episodes or so of both seasons were pretty much exclusively new music, whereas the rest of the season used stock BGM).
So I'm holding out hope that maybe even starting with episode 22, with it being the first episode fully dedicated to the final battle, that maybe we'll be getting some new music.

Where is this week's episode? Is something going on that I don't know about? I'm already having withdrawal symptoms here people!

I just watched the final episode again, and had to smile at the addition of the two little wolf-demons in the Koga/ayame scene. A nice touch and very cute! (Kai and ?)

And, huh, you're right, they are in that scene. I never noticed them before you said something. ^_^* I'm just glad that Kouga got to be in the ending at all, considering he got completely shafted in the manga. Neither the manga nor the anime ever wrapped up that whole deal with Sango telling Sesshoumaru to kill her when everything was said and done, though. I mean, we as the viewers know that Sesshoumaru's changed enough that he wouldn't, but the fact that up until the end she still assumed he would means that she doesn't know that, so she's just kind of been left hanging.

Clearly this was resolved off-camera during the time-skip. Sesshoumaru probably dropped Rin off and Sango was probably like "So, uh....wasn't he going to kill me, or something...?" and Rin was like "Naaaah." Especially since he never agreed to kill her in the first place when she asked. IIRC, his reply was something along the lines of "Hmph."
