It's been announced that a 30-minute short titled "Black Tessaiga" will premiere at the "It's a Rumic World" convention in Japan on the 30th of July. My suspicion is that it's an animated version of chapters 500-504 (or thereabouts), perhaps intended to garner interest in a full continuation of the anime series. Full story here.

I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out, as are most fans I suppose. I don't know how Inuyasha would really "fail" to be a hit if/or when it returns. I guess it is a matter of how much of a hit it needs to be in order to make it a worth while (money maker for the producers) project.
I would love to see the differences between the new and old. With the old there are so many variations in style and production quality it would be awesome to see a more updated anime of the same story. Even if this ends up only being this and no more, hopefully not. I am looking forward to seeing it make it to the web and checking out any changes in depth or detail.
I'll keep my fingers crossed, every little bit of Inuyasha is one bit more then what we had.

Oh, wow, this sounds really cool! I can't wait to see it, and I'm even more excited for the dub! (I seriously don't see what's so bad about it. o.o;; I love the English dub.) Great find, Patches!

I wonder if they're going to bother putting it out on DVD... I would really like to see it, but I won't be there for the con, so I hope they do.

will it be available to see online, or are us Americans pretty much screwed over until VIZ decides to make the dubbed version?

Actually, I don't know if it's going to be released at all outside of the convention showing. It would be a shame for them to put all that work into it and then not try to sell it. Perhaps there will be a DVD containing all the original shorts created for the convention that will go on sale once the convention finishes, since if it was sold during the convention, it would discourage people from coming to view it themselves if they could just watch their friend's copy. If it does come out on DVD, you can bet your butt I'll subtitle it.

I certainly hope we get a DVD. I miss the prettiness of the animation. I also want to see what might be different in the way that they might have done things. It can't be that EVERYONE on the original animation crew was available to do this, and they changed things enough during the series already. It would be an interesting study, if nothing else.

I can hardly believe any of the news regarding Inuyasha lately. Its like a dream come true. I am certain that "Black Tessaiga" will be available. I just hope its sooner rather than later. I am so happy.

I sort of wonder if "Black Tessaiga" won't just end up being an episode of Kanketsu-hen. It seems like if they already made that episode, why make another one to cover the same material? So if they were to do that, then it would definitely become available. </wishful thinking>

I think there's one of two options - financially, it doesn't make much sense to repeat the making of that particular story arc. On the other hand, making it as a stand-alone piece to be displayed in isolation, and making it as an episode within a television series, are different things.
Maybe they made the episodes and took one episode out to display as the OVA?
I don't suppose we'll really know until we see how they've structured the new series.

I'm talking about the extra 6 minutes of material in the original OVA. I can copy most of the published subtitles, but there is additional dialog and even changed dialog. An example is what Jaken says when Inuyasha lands on top of him after Kagome's SIT. I know enough Japanese to understand what he said was something like "Sesshomaru, hurry back, please." and not the "Am I a frog?" from True Heir. But I don't know enough to catch all the other extras.
