What Did the Anime Do Better?

I'll admit that after I read the manga, I found myself facepalming at the changes Sunrise made for the anime. However, I do consider some parts of the anime better than the manga. Case in point, the addition of a scene in "The Cruel Reunion of Fate" where Sango meets the servants Kohaku saved from Abi-hime's birds. For me, that scene gave Sango something she never received in the manga: proof that Kohaku was still, deep down, her kindhearted little brother. For me, it made her willingness to do anything to protect Kohaku more understandable, and made it easier for me to sympathize with her.

Does anybody else think the anime did something better than the manga?

I liked the entire "Kohaku, Sango, and Kirara and the Secret Flower Garden" filler episode. It was just a nice reflection episode that took the time to really showcase Kohaku's conflict now that he had his memory back.

Pretty much the entire episode involving Hitomiko was done better, since it changed the progression of events to make Kagome figure out her powers herself rather than Hitomiko just telling her, "Hey, just shoot over there."

I also liked the scene added at the end of the last episode of Midoriko and Naraku going off in peace once the jewel was destroyed.

One thing I WISH the anime had changed was adding in an explanation of WTF a youketsu is. All we're given is that it's a vortex of energy that youkai have that if you cut through it, it kills them instantly. Okay... why? There's a headcanon that I'm going with in Memoirs based on my own mass/energy duality assertion about youkai, in that the youketsu is the conduit through which a youkai exchanges body mass for youki and vice versa, and destroying it cuts their physical body off from their youki, therefore with the tether between the two severed, they just evaporate into ambient energy.

... Still doesn't explain why Inuyasha cutting his own youketsu did what it did or why that was somehow proof that he was Tessaiga's rightful heir.

Yes! That was one of my favorite changes too. The way Hitomiko had to give Kagome clues made the episode more tense, too. In the manga, it was as if Hitomiko just shrugged off Naraku's control, no big deal. With the anime, Naraku was still a threat. 

Also, that episode gave us a look at tiny Kagome, and dear god was she cute.

As for cutting his own yōketsu proving Inuyasha's the true heir to Tessaiga...I can only guess it was Sesshōmaru going "Okay, I've literally thrown everything I can at him, and he's still alive. I'm never going to defeat him. I give up." No clue why cutting his yōketsu did the thing it did.
