*spazz*
So, I can't help myself and read chapter spoilers on 2ch when they're available (which is sporadic). Holy crap, I can't wait to see chapter 29:
<spoiler>Chapter 29: "Minus"
At a regular Contracted Black Cat meeting, Rokumon hears that by arresting a damashi-gami, one can get a monetary reward. However, he caught a cold from the chairman and passed it to Rinne, too. Worried about his absence from school, Sakura finds the boy and his cat sick in bed. Sakura is surprised, along with Tsubasa who tagged along because he was worried about her. At that point, a damashi-gami dressed as a doctor appears and attacks Rinne. Rinne counters with the shinigami scythe. He's about to ask who sent him, but the damashi-gami's mouth is sealed. Rinne seems to have some idea of who's behind it. The next day, Rokumon goes to hand the damashi-gami over to the authorities, and when he goes to withdraw the reward money deposited in the bank account, when it was originally 0, it is now negative. While he's in shock, Sakura and Tsubasa look on with sympathy. There's a sudden gust of wind and a man resembling Rinne appears in a tornado of IOUs. Man: "Sorry, Rinne... I used everything in your account." Rinne: "Dad..." Sakura: 'Eh... His father?!'</spoiler>

I don't very often read spoilers, but curiosity got the better of me. Now I can't wait for next week's chapter!

For those wanting to know what Rinne-papa looks like before the chapter comes out tomorrow: Here ya go. Oh man... Takahashi is evil. On the one hand, he's pretty hot and surprisingly young-looking (doesn't look much older than 20, so he must be heavily shinigami-blooded to keep his age down), not to mention I have a habit of being attracted to father characters. But on the other hand... from the little bit we've gotten here, he sounds like someone who spends money like a compulsive gambler, spending frivolously with money that he doesn't have and then begging or swindling handouts from other family members. I know several people like this and I hate it so much >_< So, hot father character... frivolous freeloader... GAAAH, how am I supposed to feel about him?!

Possibly best to wait and see for next week's chapter. I've only got the script to go by, but at the moment, it does seem to be a set-up for the father being the reason Rinne's life is so difficult.
At the moment, it does seem as though Rinne's father is alive but is a father he cannot be proud of. I was expecting his parents, or at least one of them, to be revealed as a damashigami. It's not clear if that'll be the case or not, but right now, it does seem as though Dad is a person that cannot look after himself and so makes life miserable for those connected to him as they end up having to pick up the pieces.
Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if Takahashi throws in a twist. She seems to like doing that. I wonder if we'll find out what happened to his mother, or whether it'll just be focused on his father.

Man, this week's chapter got leaked REALLY early. So, did anyone really think we were going to figure out who Rinne's mom was THIS fast? Though looks like with the introduction of Rokudou Sabato, we have our token Takahashi womanizer, and also a character to let out some of that pent-up domestic abuse on (though the guy kinda deserves it, the jerk).

I was expecting a twist... but this is a knot! ;D I don't eat red meat, so I wasn't paying much attention at the time - but that phrase "kuroge wagyuu" does look familiar from a restaurant I was in several years ago, while on holiday in Scotland. I think the waitress said that it was the cattle breed that produced the Kobe beef that was used in the meal - but I can't remember the name of the meal, and I only remembered the cattle reference because I was doing a zoology degree at the time. I do remember her saying that Kobe beef was supposed to be good quality meat, however - but since I've never been to Japan, I've only got her word for it, and she'd hardly say her own workplace is producing bad meat. It's therefore interesting to see it referenced in this chapter, as I'd never heard of it before or after visiting that restaurant. Edited to add: Heh, I just looked it up on google. I guess "Kobe beef" is a bit of a misnomer - but I'm beginning to understand why my friend's meal was so expensive!

Gar, so the site that I was getting my raws off of closed down, and Japanese P2P hasn't been seeing any Rinne raws since chapter 39, so unless I can find another source, it looks like the scripts may have to hold off until the tankoubon come out since the closest place that sells Shounen Sunday is a six-hour drive round-trip. The current chapters would be included in volume 5, which won't come out until September-ish.

That's a shame. I do enjoy reading your translations of the chapters, so they would be missed. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can only do what you can do (and, for that matter, what you want to do).

*topic resurrection!*
Hey, just letting people know that I picked up my copy of Volume 5 today, and will therefore be able to fill in translations for chapters up through 48. Volume 6 (chapters 49-58) will likely come out sometime in December or January.
