Well....., I'm not sure I would see it in quite that way!
If I understand what the article said, they were "fancy" garments, made of expensive materials, well made and often decorated, for the offspring of the "elite;" i.e. the aristocratcy. Which, in a way, would fit Sesshoumaru. I have gotten the impression that he is, relatively speaking, "young" for a youkai; and the son of one of the most powerful daiyoukai of the age. You can't get any more "elite" than that! So, it might be more of case of his wearing a "uniform" that shows his rank as his father's son and heir, even if only to his reputation.
Snow, snow, snow, snow........., it finally stopped, late in the day! But, they say it's still going to take time to clear out, probably after Christmas. Ugh! And I was supposed to work that day. Hate breaking my promises! Well, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyful Kwanza, Blessed Winter Solstice, etc!

I see, and eve if Sesshoumaru really isn't young anymore, it might be worth it to note that he's probably pretty attached to his clothes, and if what Papa has said before is true, then we can guess if clothing can be mended with a spiritual connection or youki, it can grow with the youkai as well. All the holiday joy to you as well, lol! There's not much snow here anymore....

Seems that way. During flashbacks in the anime (not sure about the manga) Inuyasha was wearing a noticeably smaller Fire-rat cloak as a child....

I guess the supposed "cross-dressing" could always be interpreted as Sesshoumaru simply not taking the time and energy to change his clothes, lol!
That's quite a long time to go with one set, that's for sure.

Haha! For Sure!
Also, note that when Sesshoumaru shifts into his "canine" form, his clothes "disappear." He doesn't take them off, and and they don't shred "a la Hulk." (Nice pecs you have there!) So either they're part of his body(pant, pant), or, maybe, they are illusions(think about that!). Either way, it would be easier to keep to one "style."
The temp has gone Up. The snow is mellllltingggg......(ah, my beautiful wickedness!). but I may still be stuck home, awhile. We just don't get snow here this time of year! Or much during the winter anyway. So when it comes, everything goes to heck in a handbasket.
How do you say "Merry Christmas" in Japanese?
Hohoho!

How do you say "Merry Christmas" in Japanese? Same as you do in English, just Japanized. "Merii Kurisumasu!"

"Merii Kurisumasu" to everyone then. I hope everyone has a good one at least.

That's quite a long time to go with one set, that's for sure. I'm sure it takes some time and effort to get dressed and undressed. It's probably easier to stay in the same stuff, although I'd think after a few days, his clothes could stand up by themselves.... I've always found it fascinating in anime/manga that they always wear the same stuff day in and day out.

Haha. You might think so! But if their clothes were part of their "being?", they wouldn't need to change all the time, like us regular "mortals." I notice that the youkai (Shippo, InuYasha, et al) seem to wear the same "clothes" all the time.
As for clothes in general (what you say true for all animation, if you watch closely), it seems that Kagome actually did change her clothing more often than in most other series. And as for her school uniform, she probably has a dozen at least, to change if one gets messed up. And Sango does change from her "civilian," to her "uniform" often. Since he is a monk, Miroku wears the same clothing all the time, anyway. Most of the people who lived at that time were probably so poor, they didn't own more than a few items at any one time, so they had to use them as long as possible. In a way, that makes Kagome "rich" by the standards of those days.

I'll bet that if Sesshoumaru wants to bathe, he just finds a giant lake and bathes as a big dog. That would negate the idea that he would have to take off clothes at all, and given that they're attached to him in a spiritual way, it would be like bathing himself and washing the clothes at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone.
Cartoons are an easier concept when you don't have to change their clothes every day of the week. Much more simple with one costume idea. Although, I think I would like to see that happen at some point, where someone makes a cartoon where the costume is different every episode. It would likely be a very short series, though.
What ABOUT the fluffy thing on Sesshoumaru's shoulder? I know this is a long-standing question with an intense load of genealogy, but what does everyone think? I happen to think it's a dead cat. But that's just me.

Aw come on ConFrac, you're killing the Sesshy fangirls who salivate at the thought of him with no clothes on! Kill them with common sense, why don't you? ;D
I've got a question though: Sessmom had a fur cloak, Inu-Papa had a fur cape and Sesshy has a boa-looking thingie. How many other ways can fur be worn?
I think the fluff is just dog fur, but if that's the case, how come none of them are howling in pain during transformation back to human? We've seen that when they go "big doggy" the fur is attached like normal fur, so how the heck do they detach it without getting all sore and bloody?

Heeheehee. Just think though! If everyone and her "inu" could just jump in the shower and clean up without having to remove one's clothing, it would be so much simpler! Of course that would put all the fashion maiven's noses out of joint, and all the clothing stores out of business. As for the "Fluff" et al. If I remember rightly, in the chapter where Naraku gives Sesshoumaru the arm with the jewel shard, it shows Sesshoumaru having pulled down the sleeve and shoulder of his clothes to remove the tainted arm. If he can "remove" his clothing, even if it is a part of him, then it may be that he can also "remove" the fluff. Or it may be alive, while the clothes are "illusion. "Actually, if you look up "The Evolution of Fluffy" crescentmoon.goldenusagi.com/fluffy1.html , this site shows throughout the manga how it shifts and changes and GROWS! Mwahahahahaha!

It occurred to me, looking at that site, that the fluff might actually be directly linked to his power. As he gets stronger, the fluff grows mightier. After all, his parents had fluff fur trappers would kill for.

Don't you mean "that fur trappers would die for"? (I can't see them surviving an attempt to hunt down that family. Do you? *g*) I've been wondering about that fur as well. I'm not a huge fan of Wikipedia (it's useful as a starting point, but you can't exactly take what it says as gospel) but someone put on there that RT said in an interview that Mokomoko-sama was a parasite demon. Does anyone have any idea where that idea came from? It brought me up short. My theory is that these elite dog-youkai have so much strength and power that a human form can't contain it all. As a result, some part of their form remains untransformed in the form of fur, and the dog-youkai then wears it in a manner that they feel most comfortable with, which in all three cases so far, corresponds to the "extras" that show up in their true forms. So Dad's cape corresponds to the fur flowing down his neck and back, Sesshoumaru's shoulder-wrap and backside bundle (I couldn't resist saying that, sorry) corresponds to the way the fur spreads across his shoulder and back in dog-form, and his mother's fur, draping down her body the way it does, is very reminiscent of her excessively long ears in her true form. (I can't help feeling her twin pony tails are the same reflection of her long ears as well... but didn't I read somewhere that one of Amaterasu's traditional descriptions involves her wearing her hair in the form of twin ponytails?)
