*Stares*
I wanted to see this anime, but i wanted to see the original. Phoo, of all the names, Jimmy.
This might possibly turn out like Cardcaptor Sakura in english. No good anime do not deserve a fate like that.

Heh, I was just talking to Roy about this. We kinda wondered why the name "Detective Conan" would pose legal issues, and we came to the conclusion that the legal issues were because of previous American cartoon characters such as "Conan the Barbarian" that might have got in the way. Who knows, though... I wouldn't think that would be an issue, but obvioulsy there's more to it that just a name... Hehe, yeah, I still hope that it's not THAT changed... <_<

Ok, now I have a little more info I can understand some of your angst. My friend put it this way, "what if they decided to change Inuyasha's name To dave? Just to make it more american." At which point I did a brain meltdown and stomped around the room swearing for a second. She was also kind enough to point out it looks like they are also going to "FIX" the stories. So she is all upset and then she got me all frothed and bothered picturing inu tampering. I tried to console her with the fact that they will have the subs on the dvd and those are supposed to be uncut, But it didn't work to well.
So I have a question, IS it worth Watching this show when it come on later in the month? I have never seen any of it.

Well, just watched the first episode of Detective Conan/Case Closed, so here's my two cents.
Well, from the first episode, it seems like a really good series. I just hope it can keep up this kind of momentum, given that it's 300+ episodes long at the moment (however, like Inu, I'm sure it'll lose steam). It was kinda cool how they had the Suspicious Guys in Black at the murder scene, but it turned out it was the random gymnast lady who did it. At least that's hope that the show won't be kiddy and obvious.
Now, as for the dub... well, despite me snickering every time they called Shinichi "Jimmy", the acting was pretty darn good. Thankfully, he'll be known (correctly) as Conan for most of the rest of the series, I'd assume, so it won't be that bad. Though, they did give his kid buddies American names as well.
I do have to gripe with them using the EXACT same text boxes for name captioning as they did in Yuuyuu Hakusho. C'mon, people, broaden your horizons! That font doesn't really work too well with this series, anyway. Also... I'm almost certain that they censored the headless guy. Instead of being headless, it looked like his head was glowing. XD
Actually, after watching it, I went to bed and proceeded to have a Conan dream. I was sitting with Conan over lunch and mentioned, "Due to conservation of mass, do you still weigh the 100-some-odd pounds you did when you were Shinichi?" He just gave me a weird look. And I think he was in the middle of a case to find a missing frog.

300+ episodes?! Cripes!!
I saw the commercials for it and meant to start recording it, but kept forgetting. The other day I went to check out an old Inuyasha ep for lack of anything better to do, and lo and behold, for some reason Tivo thinks Case Closed is Inuyasha! So that was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. =) I do wonder what's up with Tivo, though... it doesn't usually make mistakes like that.
Something about it reminds me of Lupin and Inspector Gadget, and their ears... my stars, could they get any bigger? But overall I like it a lot more than I expected to. I agree that the dubbing is pretty good. I especially like the way they overlay the voices, the kid voice over the adult, like in the end of the first episode where he's laying there wondering what happened to him in the adult voice, and under that is the kid voice panting -a thoughtful touch.
I already care about him and really feel for his predicament, but 300+ episodes of "Don't worry, Rachel. I'll be back soon." phonecalls? Hrmm....

I know this topic is awfully dead, but I have to say this...
At least they call them decent names >__< Here, they decided to call Shinichi "Bobby Jackson", why? No idea, since we DO talk spanish and not english... but that spanish thing got to my nerves when they started namings characters "Andeleisa", "Templas", "Rubegoberto", and I'm not kidding... THOSE are awful names, even in spanish! And I'm not even sure they exist!! And go with them with surnames like "Galvez", "Perez", "Gonzales", etc and all those spanish last names...
Whatever, I just hated the Conan dub in spanish, besides the V.A. was horrendous and the opening credits... oh god the opening credits...
THEY LEFT MUNE GA DOKI DOKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND TRANSLATED!!!!!! (And the guy doesn't do much better than the original...)
There, had to say it ^_^

So Case Closed it coming out with a movie that is dubbed in a whole bunch of languages that sound crappy when not in Japanese?! Well, that is a problem. When I learned about English dubbing I thought that was hurrendous, but in spanish that's just worse than german or swedish!
