 Memoirs Discussion
« Thread Started on Aug 13, 2008, 11:26am »

Is my life history really that interesting?

This thread is for discussing the Memoirs section, including any questions regarding terminology meanings, or just general questions about what's going on if I haven't expressed myself clearly enough. It's hard for me to know if I'm making any sense if no one calls me out on my incoherent babblings.

Questions are encouraged, but this is not a thread for "spoilers". If you have a question that will be answered somewhere later in the story, I'll let you know.

I was wondering about something...

You never mentioned having siblings, but I'm pretty sure puppies normally come in litters. Did you simply leave them out, or is this an indication of your youkai background?

Just wondering. :)

It's probably an indication of a youkai background. I was an only child. High-level youkai are powerful enough that they don't need to have a half a dozen babies at a time. However, sexual reproduction in and of itself is an oddity amongst youkai. Most reproduce either asexually (like Naraku's detachments), or simply come into being ex nihilo from amalgamations of spiritual energy around an object (like Yura). The majority of youkai are just those snake-like flying things, and they're nothing but natural energy given form.

I kind of got sidetracked, but hopefully that answered your question.

Sorry for being kind of slow on the updates to this section this week. I'm having sort of a writer's block in an "I know where I need to go, I'm just trying to figure out how to get there in the most logical way" sort of way.

Aw, writer's block! Unfortunate. I hate it when that happens. No worries, though, as I'm sure no one wants to rush you.

By the way, love the ending to the last chapter. I was waiting for the "which one was your mother" question, hahaha! Ah, I suppose that's because I'm six years old at heart and tend to like asking those sorts of questions myself. ::)

Because I was bored, random character sheet for Yachouon:

I may do ones for the other original characters, but some of their information could get a little spoiler-y, so I'm not sure. For now, here's this one. Woo.

Ah, cliff-hangers! Don't they just make your day.... But your story is very interesting so far, papa!

Ms fracture's question about Youkai, um, reproduction, brought to mind a question I've had for a while. Although I know there are many differences, there also seem to be some similarities between youkai and those we call the "Fair Folk" (elves, fairies, ogres, etc.) in western folktales. Are they any relation, or is it just because they are "forces of nature" also?

As for Spoilers, Spoil me! I like having background on characters in stories; I feel it helps make the story more interesting and understandable.

I noticed that too.... Perhaps all our mythological creatures migrated out of Africa with us? ;D

Or is it more connected to a collective unconscious, like Carl Jung speculated?

Hm..., interesting thought; really it could be one or the other. Either way, we started with the same beings, but as different groups adapted to different enviroments, and developed different customs and civilizations, the creatures would evolve too. And the longer the time, and distance, of seperation, the more differences there would be. Ahh..., but heck, what do the scholars know?

Note to Papa: I'm waiting with baited breath (polish sausage on sourdough w/ cranberry mustard) for your next chapter!

One thing I should note is that I don't actually proofread (or even have a proofreader) for anything I write, so if something makes no sense or is worded or paced badly, feel free to let me know. It's just sort of a stream of thought that gets slapped up on the internet as soon as I make a picture to go with it.

Hoooee! Kaze no Kisu! Desperation is the mother of Necessity it seems. Obviously the Shikon no Tama was a pain in the ...., problem long before Inuyasha&Co. got involved. That guardian spirit you had that little conversation with earlier looked a bit familiar. A relative maybe Papa (hint, hint)?

Oh here's hoping that InuMom is still alive! But it makes me wonder how long "you" had been searching for her. Just can't wait for the next chapter to come!

It's hard to say exactly how much time has passed since the beginning, but I'd say at least three or four months, maybe as many as five or six. The entirety of the story will end up spanning almost 500 years, so there's not much time to dawdle day-to-day unless this thing is going to be millions of chapters long.

Thanks. I'm always curious about the timeframe of a story. What happened when, how long it took, etc. Like in this story; it takes place 500 years before "InuYasha." I don't know anything about this era. When exactly was it? And what WAS going on in Japan at the time? Do you know of any sites that have info about it? I really appreciate your time, and all the effort that goes into all this.
